About
Is God a Republican or a Democrat? Does following Jesus require supporting a particular political party? And how should Christians respond when faith and politics collide?
For many young people, Christianity and politics have become difficult to separate. They see Christians defending opposing candidates, using Scripture to justify conflicting political positions, and treating elections as battles between good and evil. Some begin to wonder whether their faith is simply another political identity.
But Christianity calls believers to an allegiance greater than any party, politician, or nation.
Whose Side Is God On? equips parents, grandparents, pastors, youth leaders, and mentors to help the next generation understand what the Bible teaches about government, political participation, justice, and the relationship between Christian faith and political power.
Through six thoughtfully developed movements, this guide explores:
- Putting faith before political allegiance: Discover why no political party can claim ownership of Jesus and how Christians can disagree about public policy without abandoning biblical convictions or treating one another as enemies.
- Understanding what the Bible teaches about government: Explore Jesus' teaching about Caesar, Romans 13, civil obedience, and the circumstances in which faithfulness to God may require resisting human authority.
- Examining Christian nationalism: Understand the differences between patriotism, Christian participation in public life, and Christian nationalism. Explore why confusing national identity with Christian identity can distort the gospel.
- Understanding biblical justice and the Black church: Examine the relationship between Christian faith, racial justice, and the Civil Rights Movement through the experiences of believers who confronted injustice, including Fannie Lou Hamer.
- Responding when injustice breaks our hearts: Learn how Scripture addresses grief, lament, injustice, and disappointment, and how to help young people process painful events without surrendering their hope to political movements or leaders.
- Practicing faithful political engagement: Discover practical ways to approach social media, political disagreements, voting, protesting, and civic involvement with humility, wisdom, and biblical conviction.
Featuring insights from Christian scholars, pastors, historians, and public leaders, along with biblical teaching, historical examples, reflection exercises, and practical conversation starters, this resource helps adults navigate difficult political questions without reducing Christianity to a partisan agenda.
Whether a young person is questioning the church's political involvement, wrestling with Christian nationalism, confronting racial injustice, or trying to understand how their faith should influence their vote, this guide offers a thoughtful framework for meaningful conversations.
The question isn't which political side God is on. It's whether our political convictions, loyalties, and actions are being shaped by our allegiance to Jesus Christ.
