A Letter from Lisa Fields
Dear friend,
Ask a young person who Jesus is, and you may get a kind answer: a good teacher, a prophet, a man who loved people. Many adults would say the same. When Ligonier Ministries and Lifeway Research surveyed American adults in 2025, 49% agreed that Jesus was a great teacher but not God, and 65% said God accepts the worship of all religions.
We wrote this guide with you in mind: the parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle, youth leader, Sunday school teacher, pastor or mentor who wants to answer that kind answer well. A young person who calls Jesus a good teacher has already taken him seriously. Our job is to help them read what he actually said and did.
I believe many people are walking away from a counterfeit version of Jesus. When you meet who Jesus really is, it is very difficult to walk away.
In seven movements you will find what Jesus claimed about himself, the case for his resurrection, honest answers to the claims that Christianity copied pagan myths or that a church council invented his deity, a plain explanation of the Trinity, and how to hold that Jesus is the only way to the Father with confidence and compassion. You will also find help for the conversation itself: words worth knowing, readiness by age, conversation starters, and what to do when a talk goes sideways. Everyone quoted here spoke on our podcast, and you can hear each conversation in full.
Read it alone, with your spouse, or with a small group of parents or leaders. Take one movement at a time, and answer the questions yourself before you ask anyone else a question. Then go have a conversation. Then have another one.
