Every scholar in this conversation is answering the same question: Can a Christian take both the Bible and the scientific record seriously at the same time, and if so, how should Genesis be read alongside the evidence? They all say yes to the first half. None of them thinks a believer has to choose between the laboratory and the Bible, and one of them, a biochemist, came to faith because of what he saw in the laboratory. The second half is where they part ways, and where they part is specific.
Three separate disputes usually get collapsed into one:
- How old is the earth?
- Did God bring life about through evolution?
- What kind of writing is Genesis 1?
